1. Modeling of inorganic ions in aqueous solution
Sammanfattning : Essentially all chemical processes and reactions occurring in the environment take place in the presence of ions. In water, ions set the conditions for how other dissolved particles interact. Ions are also directly involved in chemical reactions affecting the climate such as ozone depletion. LÄS MER
2. Anionic Graft Copolymers with Poly(ethylene oxide) Side-Chains; Synthesis, Solution Properties and Ion Conduction
Sammanfattning : The research underlaying this thesis involves synthesis and characterization of well-defined anionic graft copolymers carrying poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) side-chains. Two different grafting techniques were used. Backbone polymers were prepared through radical terpolymerization of maleic anhydride, styrene and an additional comonomer. LÄS MER
3. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry
Sammanfattning : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately. 4. Stability of UO2 in systems containing radiolytic oxidants : The role of uranyl peroxide species
Sammanfattning : Nuclear power constitutes a major pillar on the global energy market, and it will most probably increase in importance as fossil fuels are gradually phased out. The main problem connected to nuclear power is the generation of highly radiotoxic spent nuclear fuel (95% UO2 and 5% radioactive fission products and heavier actinides). LÄS MER
5. Localised corrosion and atmospheric corrosion of stainless steels
Sammanfattning : This research is focused on defining limiting conditions for corrosion of stainless steels. The aim of the first part (Papers I-IV) was to understand the role of alloying level and environmental parameters on localised corrosion in aqueous conditions. LÄS MER
