6. New perspectives on pathology in Huntington's disease - characterization of hypothalamic changes
Sammanfattning : Huntington’s disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expansion of the CAG repeat in the huntingtin gene. Non-motor symptoms and signs such as psychiatric disturbances and metabolic dysfunction are also part of the disease manifestation. These symptoms often precede the motor symptoms by decades. LÄS MER
7. THE VASOPRESSIN SYSTEM IN DIABETES MELLITUS, OBESITY AND THE METABOLIC SYNDROME
Sammanfattning : Background: Animal studies suggest that the arginine vasopressin (AVP) system plays a role in glucose and fat metabolism, but data from humans are limited. Method and results: We analysed plasma copeptin (copeptin), a stable C-terminal fragment of the AVP pro-hormone in the large, Swedish, population-based cohort Malmö Diet and Cancer Study Cardiovascular Cohort (MDC-CC, n=6103). 8. The effects of some peptide hormones on osteoblast-like cells : with specific focus on oxytocin and vasopressin
Sammanfattning : The nonapeptides oxytocin (OXT) and vasopressin (AVP) are mainly produced in the hypothalamus and released into the circulation through the neurohypophysis. Recently, an OXT-receptor was demonstrated in human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells, and it has been suggested that patients with central diabetes insipidus (deficiency of AVP) have decreased bone mass. 9. Body fat regulating neuropeptides: relation to interleukines and gut microbiota
Sammanfattning : Previous studies have shown that mice lacking interleukin-6 (IL-6), an important cytokine in the immune system, develop obesity, and that central, but not peripheral, administration of IL-6 induces energy expenditure. These findings suggest that IL-6 suppresses fat mass through the central nervous system. LÄS MER
10. Postoperative nausea and vomiting in women : an unglamorous aspect of anaesthesia
Sammanfattning : Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONY) still remains a common and undesirable side effect of anaesthesia. Women are afflicted by PONY two to three times more often than men and a substantial number of patients consider PONV to be the worst part of the entire surgical procedure. LÄS MER
