  1. 11. Cardiovascular risk factors and endothelium-dependent vasodilation

    Författare :Mahziar D. Sarabi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Endothelium; aging; metabolic factors; smoking; stress; mixed meal; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a major modulator of vascular structur and function. This thesisincludes clinical studies investigating the associations between cardiovascular risk factors andendothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) in the human forearm vascular bed. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation and Oxidative Stress in Chronic Renal Failure

    Författare :Margus Annuk; Ola Samuelson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; endothelium; oxidative stress; chronic renal failure; L-arginine; diclofenac; erythropoietin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of death in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Endothelial function and oxidative stress (OS) have previously been shown to be important in the pathogenesis of CVD. In this thesis, the endothelium-dependent vasodilatation (EDV) and OS were investigated in the patients with CRF. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Preventing pressure ulcers by assessment of the microcirculation in tissue exposed to pressure

    Författare :Sara Bergstrand; Margareta Lindgren; Anna-Christina Ek; Maria Engström; Lars-Göran Lindberg; Fredrik Huss; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pressure ulcer; photoplethysmography; laser Doppler flowmetry; non-invasive; tissue blood flow; reactive hyperemia; pressure-induced vasodilation; interface pressure; risk assessment;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to combine optical methods into a system with the ability to simultaneously measure blood flow changes at different tissue depths. The goal of such a system was to reveal vascular mechanisms relevant to pressure ulcer etiology under clinically relevant conditions and in relation to the evaluation of pressure-redistribution support surfaces. 4. 14. Reproductive and Metabolic Consequences of the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

    Författare :Miriam Hudecova; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Jan Holte; Matts Olovsson; Per Olof Janson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; polycystic ovarian syndrome; long-term follow-up; ovarian reserve; anti-Müllerian hormone; insulin sensitivity; early insuline response; impaired glucose tolerance; diabetes; endothelial function; endothelial-dependent vasodilation; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex clinical condition characterized by hyperandrogenism and chronic oligo/anovulation. Infrequent ovulation and metabolic alterations in women with PCOS are associated with subfertility and probably increased miscarriage rates compared with normal fertile women. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea

    Författare :Holger Kraiczi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea; blood pressure; cardiac size; left ventricular function; endothelium-dependent vasodilation; forearm vascular conductance; natriuretic peptides;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction.In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals).
