  1. 36. Unusual vascular responses in the umbilical artery, mediated by endothelin-like receptors

    Författare :Maria Laursen; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; sexualitet; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; unusual vascular responses; endothelin-like receptors; human umbilical artery; reproduktion;

    Sammanfattning : In this present study the population of endothelin-like receptors in the human umbilical artery was examined in vitro in different parts of the umbilical cord. Immunohistochemistry revealed ETB receptors in the endothelium and an uneven distribution of ETA receptors in the smooth muscle of the arterial wall, when comparing different parts of the umbilical artery. 2. 37. Studies on anti-inflammatory and vasoactive effects of mPGES-1 inhibition

    Författare :Julia Steinmetz-Späh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is the basis for various serious illnesses such as rheumatic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a pro-inflammatory lipid mediator produced by cyclooxygenases (COX1/2) and the microsomal prostaglandin E synthase 1 (mPGES-1). LÄS MER

  3. 38. Splanchnic perfusion in cardiac surgery

    Författare :Anders Thorén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Splanchnic circulation; jejunal mucosal perfusion; laser Doppler flowmetry; cardiopulmonary bypass; cardiac surgery; inotropic agents; gastric tonometry; sympathetic reflex;

    Sammanfattning : Splanchnic ischemia in cardiac surgery is considered a risk factor in the development of the Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), which is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the intensive care unit. Splanchnic ischemia/reperfusion may lead to an injury of the intestinal mucosa and induce a systemic inflammation (SIRS), which is proposed to precede MODS. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Acute lung failure induced by tricyclic antidepressants : an experimental evaluation

    Författare :Karin Svens; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ARDS; tricyclic antidepressants; isolated lungs; rat; endothelin; endothelial cells; tight junctions;

    Sammanfattning : The tricyclic antidepressant drugs (TCA) have, over the years, been reported to be able to cause adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)/acute lung injury in connection with overdose, and are currently among the most common cause of self-poisoning. Approximately 10% of all TCA overdose patients develop ARDS, and the treatment of these patients, irrespective of the event causing ARDS, is mainly supportive. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Retinal glucose metabolism and blood flow : Effects of photic stimulation

    Författare :Lin Wang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; blood flow; darkness; flicker; glucose oxidation; glycolysis; lactate; light; nitric oxide; optic nerve; retina; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Retinal glucose metabolism was investigated under different light conditions in cats,pigs and rabbits. Glycolysis and glucose oxidation in the outer and inner parts of theretina were assessed by determining arteriovenous concentration differences foroxygen, glucose and lactate, as well as local blood flow.
