  1. 31. Vascular effects of neuropeptides and UDP-β-S and alterations after stroke

    Författare :André Erdling; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the changes in vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) and P2Y6-mediated signaling following experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). VIP and CGRP are among the most powerful vasodilators known to man while P2Y6 mediates strong vasoconstriction in cerebral blood vessels. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Renal failure in experimental sepsis : role of endothelin and the toll-like receptor 4

    Författare :Johan Fenhammar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is the leading cause of renal failure in critically ill patients, but the pathogenesis of septic kidney dysfunction is poorly defined. The current paradigm states that hypoperfusion and excessive renal vasoconstriction results in renal ischemia. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Vacuum-assisted closure in cardiac surgery - clinical outcome and vascular effects

    Författare :Johan Sjögren; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Infektioner; Infections; endothelium; vascular; central hemodynamics; risk factors; long-term survival; mortality; wound closure; cardiac surgery; vacuum-assisted closure; poststernotomy mediastinitis; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this research was to clinically and experimentally evaluate the use of vacuum-assisted closure in poststernotomy mediastinitis after cardiac surgery. Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) is a new wound-healing therapy based on the application of a local negative pressure to the wound. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Protein Kinase Inhibition in Late Cerebral Ischemia after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

    Författare :Saema Ansar; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; protein kinase; cerebral ischemia; subarachnoid hemorrage; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The cerebral ischemia that occur after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) often results in death or severe disability and is a significant cause of stroke. Our hypothesis is that cerebral ischemia leads to pathophysiological receptor changes on the vascular smooth muscle cells. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Mental Stress and Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation

    Författare :Kristina Johansson; Sverker Jern; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Mental stress; endothelium; adrenoceptor blockade; catecholamine; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The endothelium plays an important part in blood flow regulation by producing the vasodilatory substance nitric oxide (NO). Various studies have shown that commonly accepted risk factors for coronary heart disease, such as hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, smoking and mental stress impair endothelium-derived vasodilation by the NO-pathway.
