11. Lung Transplantation: Clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : During the past 15 years lung transplantation has been established as a therapeutic option for patients with end-stage pulmonary disease. The results have improved over time and some transplantation centers now show 1-year survival rates above 80%. LÄS MER
12. 4D flow MRI and modelling to assess cerebral arterial hemodynamics : method development and evaluation, with implementation in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis
Sammanfattning : Blood flow measurements are important for understanding the development of cerebrovascular diseases. With 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (4D flow MRI), simultaneous velocity measurements are obtained in all cerebral arteries in a scan of about ten minutes. However, 4D flow MRI is a relatively new technique. LÄS MER
13. Capillary and interstitial transport of fluid and solutes across the peritoneal membrane
Sammanfattning : According to the three-pore model of peritoneal transport the major exchange pathway between the blood and the peritoneal cavity is represented by “small pores”, permeable to small solutes and water. Osmotically induced fluid flow, as during peritoneal dialysis (PD), is postulated to occur to a great extent through a water-only pathway, whereas proteins are predicted to reach the peritoneal cavity by unidirectional convection across “large pores”. 14. Regulation of vascular tone in myometrial resistance arteries in normal pregnancy and preeclampsia
Sammanfattning : Background: Normal pregnancy is characterized by the occurrence of substantial vasodilatation. Pressure responsiveness and vascular reactivity to administered vasoconstrictors undergo considerable attenuation. These circulatory changes are essential to maintain adequate oxygen and nutrient delivery to the placenta and thus to the fetus. LÄS MER
15. Epidemiological, mechanistic and genetic aspects of vascular ageing and arterial stiffness in the population
Sammanfattning : The core feature of vascular ageing is the age-associated stiffening of the large, elastic arteries, or arteriosclerosis. This results in a diminished volume-buffering function and is therefore central for the increase in systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure seen with advancing age. LÄS MER
