21. Vascular effects of endothelin in experimental lung injury
Sammanfattning : Acute lung injury remains a frequent and life threatening consequence of severe sepsis. This thesis has investigated the role of the endothelin (ET) system in sepsis-induced lung injury, with special reference to its effects on two hallmarks of this syndrome - formation of edema and pulmonary hypertension. 22. Cellular and molecular roles for CDC42 in angiogenesis
Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis is the physiological process by which new blood vessels grow and critically depends on the interplay between the major vascular units: endothelial cells, pericytes and smooth muscle cells. Dysfunction and mispatterning of blood vessels are associated with the progression of many vascular complications, and therefore, understanding the causes of vascular dysmorphia is a central question in vascular biology. 23. Transvascular fluid exchange with application to the brain. An experimental study in cat skeletal muscle and brain
Sammanfattning : This study evaluated transcapillary fluid exchange in the cat brain and in a cat skeletal muscle enclosed in a plethysmograph. A method for determination of capillary permeability (capillary filtration coefficient and reflection coefficient) and effects of transcapillary hydrostatic pressure changes were studied We found that capillary fluid permeability in a tissue can be determined by the capillary filtration coefficient, even when arterial pressure and vascular tone are changed. 24. Vascular effects of prostacyclin in cat skeletal muscle and in the traumatised rat brain
Sammanfattning : Disturbances in microvascular function may be important for tissue damage in many disease states. Prostacyclin, a substance produced by endothelial cells, is important for the maintenance of normal vascular homeostasis and is a potential drug for treatment of microvascular dysfunction, but indications and optimal dosage remains to be established. 25. Studies of the vascular endothelial growth factors, VEGFs, and their receptors, focusing on VEGF-B
Sammanfattning : The inner lining of all blood- and lymphatic vessels are composed of endothelial cells. Their growth and differentiation are in part regulated by polypeptide growth factors and their receptors. LÄS MER
