  1. 16. Endothelial cells : dysfunction and repair mechanisms

    Författare :Elzafir Elsheikh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Endothelial cells; endothelial progenitor cells; Wegener s granulomatosis; atherosclerosis; myocardial infarction; menstruation cycle; stromal cell-derived factor-1;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial cells (ECs) are crucial component of the normal vascular wall, providing an interface between the bloodstream and surrounding tissue of the blood vessel wall. Endothelial progenitors cells (EPCs) circulate in the blood and migrate to regions of the circulatory system with injured endothelium and ischemic tissues. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Role of arginase in vascular function

    Författare :Christian Jung; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is central for the integrity of the cardiovascular system, the maintenance of endothelial function and the protection against ischaemic heart disease. The enzyme arginase is up-regulated during ischaemia-reperfusion and by hypoxia in cell culture and animal models which might be of pathophysiological relevance since it competes with NO synthase for their common substrate arginine. 3. 18. Renal dysfunction and protection in cardiovascular surgery

    Författare :Anders Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute Renal Failure; Anesthesia; Atrial Natriuretic Peptide; Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide; Calcium Antagonists; Diltiazem; Heart Surgery; Postoperative Renal Dysfunction; Vascular Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Purpose: This thesis is focused on studies of postoperative renal dysfunction (PRD), and on renal effects and possible prophylactic potentials of three vasoactive substances, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), and the calcium channel antagonist diltiazem. Methods: In paper I the medical records of 1 030 consecutive cardiothoracic surgery patients were evaluated and glomerular filtration calculated from serum creatinine levels. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Cardiovascular role of PDGF-B in development and disease. Studies in genetically engineered mice

    Författare :Henrik Nyström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; cardiovascular disease; cell retention; in vivo physiology; neointimal hyperplasia; PDGF; transgenic mice; vascular function; vascular smooth muscle cell;

    Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factor B (PDGF-B) is vital for microvascular development, and retention of PDGF-B to extracellular matrix (ECM) is important in this process. However, the role and source of PDGF-B in development of macrovascular function is disputed. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Vascular Interactions in Innate Immunity and Immunothrombosis: : Models of Endothelial Protection

    Författare :Sofia Nordling; Peetra Magnusson; Paul Kubes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endothelial cells; Thrombosis; Innate immunity; Immunothrombosis; Thromboinflammation; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The phenomenon known as immunothrombosis has garnered increased attention over the last few years. Much work has been done to characterize the cross talk between hemostasis and the innate immune system. LÄS MER
