1. Evaluation of a Variable Nozzle Turbine Turbocharger on a Diesel Engine under Steady and Transient Conditions
Sammanfattning : The growing global call for reduced emissions and fuel consumption together with the market call for engines with higher power density and application-oriented torque curves can be met using turbochargers with variable geometry turbines (VGT). The second generation of VGT turbochargers is currently being developed and is starting to appear on the market. LÄS MER
2. Development of a Novel Gas Turbine Simulator for Hybrid Solar-Brayton Systems
Sammanfattning : Hybrid solar-Brayton systems utilize both solar thermal energy and supplementary renewable fuels to provide controllable and dispatchable power output, which renders them a promising way to meet the growing energy demand and reduce the carbon footprints. However, existing testing facilities for key components in such hybrid systems often fail to accomplish the testing requirements, hence impeding the improvement of the renewable energy share and the overall efficiency. 3. Aero Engine Intercooling
Sammanfattning : Intercooling has the potential to provide a shortcut to the next generation aero engines with higher bypass ratio (BPR), higher overall pressure ratio (OPR) and higher turbine inlet temperature (TIT) by lowering the high pressure compressor (HPC) delivery temperature. To be able to establish a systematic understanding of aero engine intercooling, the heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics of a given intercooler architecture need to be known in the parameter range anticipated for the engine optimization. 4. Developing Computational Tools for Modern Aeroacoustic Research
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents the author s research on numerical methods for Com-putational Aeroacoustics and the development of computational tools with direct applicability in industry. The designers in the gas-turbine industry, require accurate methods for predicting the onset and the frequencies of dangerous (pressure) oscillations, like the ones which typically occur in Lean Premixed Pre-vaporized (LPP) combustors.
