6. Resource characterization and variability studies for marine current power
Sammanfattning : Producing electricity from marine renewable resources is a research area that develops continuously. The field of tidal energy is on the edge to progress from the prototype stage to the commercial stage. LÄS MER
7. Wastewater discharges and microbial variability in a surface water source
Sammanfattning : Planning for drinking-water safety in surface waters includes a systematic assessment of hazards in the catchment, and microbial contamination is considered a major health risk. The aim of this thesis was to identify and characterize microbial hazardous events reported for River Göta älv, Sweden. LÄS MER
8. Design of High Performance Computing Software for Genericity and Variability
Sammanfattning : Computer simulations have emerged as a cost efficient complement to laboratory experiments, as computers have become increasingly powerful. The aim of the present work is to explore the ideas of some state of the art software development practices, and ways in which these can be useful for developing high performance research codes. 9. Modelling the Variability of Bending Strength in Structural Timber - Length and Load Configuration Effects
Sammanfattning : The load carrying capacity of a beam of structural timber is dependent both on the span of the beam and the type of loading. The longer the beam and the more uniform the moment distribution, the lower the load carrying capacity. This phenomenon is due to the variability of material properties within a piece of timber. 10. Contouring & planning variability in stereotactic radiosurgery : How to assess and address the weakest link in stereotactic radiosurgery?
Sammanfattning : The use of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) employing one or a few fractions of high doses of radiation has continuously increased due to the technical development in dose delivery and morphological and functional imaging. As the target volume in SRS is usually defined without margins, the treatment success critically depends on accurate definition and contouring of the target volume and organs at risk (OARs) which are commonly situated in the proximity of the target making their precise delineation particularly important in order to limit possible normal tissue complications.
