  1. 1. Heart Rate Variability in Stress-related Fatigue, Adolescent Anxiety and Depression and its Connection to Lifestyle

    Författare :Erik Olsson; Lennart Melin; Ulf Lundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :heart rate variability; autonomic nervous system; vagal tone; allostatic load; stress; fatigue; anxiety; depression; continuous performance; attention; cardiovascular risk; lifestyle; physical activity;

    Sammanfattning : Heart rate varies constantly as a consequence of activity in the sympathetic and parasympathetic autonomic nervous systems (SNS and PNS). In short-term recordings, heart rate variability (HRV) is mostly related to the inhibitory activity of the vagal nerves, which are part of the PNS. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Anxiety and depression in adolescent females : autonomic regulation and differentiation

    Författare :Eva Henje Blom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of anxiety and depression is on the increase in adolescent girls, as estimated by self-assessed symptom reports. There is a need for implementation of validated instruments to identify those in need of treatment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Gastric Bypass in Morbid Obesity : Postoperative Changes in Metabolic, Inflammatory and Gut Regulatory Peptides

    Författare :Camilla Holdstock; Britt Edén Engström; Anders Karlsson; Per Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; gastric bypass; morbid obesity; ghrelin; C-reactive protein; pancreatic polypeptide; peptide YY; glucagon-like peptide-1; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the effect of surgical weight loss on gut and adipose tissue peptides involved in appetite regulation and energy homeostasis in morbidly obese humans. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) is the gold standard operation used for effective long-term weight loss and improved health. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Echocardiographic methods for assessment of coronary artery disease

    Författare :Peter Blomstrand; Lars-Åke Brodin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Upright bicycle exercise echocardiography with digital image acquisition in seated position during exercise and in recumbent position before and immediately after exercise was performed in 66 men, one month after an episode of unstable coronary arte1y disease. It was difficult to obtain images of adequate quality during exercise but new or worsening of wall motion abnormalities not seen in recumbent position after exercise were detected at peak-exercise in patients with good image quality. 5. 5. Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia and Emotion : Effects of pictorial stimuli and state anxiety

    Författare :Peter Jönsson; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; state anxiety; emotion; HRV; heart rate variability; RSA; Respiratory sinus arrhythmia; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) refers to heart rate variations due to respiration, which results from parasympathetic nervous system activity mediated via the tenth cranial nerve, the vagus. Thus, the magnitude of RSA is considered as an index of cardiac vagal tone. This thesis explored RSA during emotional responding in healthy women and men. LÄS MER
