21. Vaccine-induced aluminium allergy and long-lasting subcutaneous itching nodules
Sammanfattning : Background: Aluminium contact dermatitis is rare even though aluminium is frequently used in antiperspirants and sunscreens. Sensitisation to aluminium is mostly a side effect of aluminium-adsorbed vaccines. These can also induce long-lasting intensely itching subcutaneous nodules (granulomas) at the injection site. 22. Functions of glycoprotein G of herpes simplex virus type 2
Sammanfattning : Background: Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a common sexually transmitted infection with more than 500 million individuals infected world-wide. A major global health problem is that HSV-2 infection facilitates the spread of HIV. This epidemiological situation warrants the development of a vaccine to reduce the spread of HSV-2. LÄS MER
23. Antibodies for better or worse or Antibody variability in an egg-laying mammal and a novel strategy in the treatment of allergies
Sammanfattning : Antibodies are a central part of the immune defense system, and a large variability in their specificity is needed in order to be able to react against all possible foreign substances we may encounter during our lives. In this thesis, results are presented from investigations into how an egg-laying mammal, the Australian duck-billed platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) creates antibody variability. LÄS MER
24. Immunogenicity and protective potential of Protein D of Haemophilus influenzae against H. influenzae infection
Sammanfattning : Both Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHi) are important human pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections. Currently there are number of vaccines available against Hib infections. LÄS MER
25. Antibody- and Peptide-based Immunotherapies : Proof-of-concept and safety considerations
Sammanfattning : The aim of cancer immunotherapy is to eradicate tumours by inducing a tumour-specific immune response. This thesis focuses on how antibodies and peptides can improve antigen presentation and the subsequent tumour-specific T cell response. Tumour recognition by the immune system can be promoted through delivery of antigen in the form of a vaccine. LÄS MER
