  1. 1. Bone density, bone geometry and bone development in young men - the importance of pubertal timing and fracture history

    Författare :Anna Darelid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peak bone mass; bone mineral density; bone development; fracture; young adulthood; men;

    Sammanfattning : Background and objective: Peak bone mass, the maximal bone mass attained in young adulthood, is an important factor of the lifetime risk of developing osteoporosis. The aim of this thesis was to study the development of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone geometry around the time of peak bone mass in men, and also to investigate the association between pubertal timing, fracture history, bone turnover markers and BMD and bone geometry in young men. 2. 2. A prospective chohort study on bone formation and bone loss in ankylosing spondylitis

    Författare :Anna Deminger; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ankylosing spondylitis; bone mineral density; spinal new bone formation; longitudinal cohort study;

    Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) have an increased risk of bone loss with development of osteoporosis and vertebral fractures (VFs) but also spinal new bone formation with growth of bony spurs (syndesmophytes) between the vertebrae. Measurements of spinal bone mineral density (BMD) by the routine method dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in anteroposterior (AP) projection can be difficult to interpret due to the spinal new bone formation. 3. 3. Physical activity and its effect on bone in the short- and long- term perspective

    Författare :Christian Lindén; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; fractures; children; exercise; bone size; osteoporosis; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; aBMD;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a growing problem worldwide where Sweden has one of the highest fragility fracture incidences in the world. The growing years are thought to be an opportune time to build strong bones and the enhancement of peak bone mass (PBM) has been suggested as a prevention strategy for osteoporosis. LÄS MER
