6. Genetics of androgen disposition : implications for doping tests
Sammanfattning : Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) are derivatives of testosterone. Doping with AAS is a severe challenge to the vision, moral and ethics in sports and has also become an increasing problem in society. Testosterone abuse is conventionally assessed by the urinary testosterone glucuronide/ epitestosterone glucuronide (T/E) ratio, levels above 4. LÄS MER
7. Steroids and bile acids in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy : effects of treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid
Sammanfattning : A method permitting simultaneous analysis of individual steroid hormone metabolites and bile acids in different forms of conjugation in serum and urine was established. Total bile acids and neutral steroids were extracted from human serum or urine with octadecylsilane-bonded silica, separated into different groups of conjugates by anion-exchange chromatography and analyzed by fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry. 8. Adrenocortical tumors : Diagnosis, growth regulation and treatment
Sammanfattning : Monoclonal antibodies generated by immunization with human adrenocortical cells reacted with the normal adrenal cortex, adrenocortical adenomas and carcinomas, but failed to stain a variety of normal tissues, renal cell carcinoma, and pheocromocytomas. The antibodies can be used to improve histological diagnosis and characterization of human adrenal lesions, and possibly for scintigraphic detection. LÄS MER
9. Role of estrogen receptor beta in mouse prostate and bladder with references to human diseases
Sammanfattning : After the discovery of estrogen receptor beta (ERbeta) in 1995, it became clear that in many non-classical estrogen-responsive organs, were in fact direct targets for estrogen. One of these organs is prostate gland, where ERbeta is abundant in epithelium. LÄS MER
10. The role of the prostate in androgen metabolism
Sammanfattning : The androgenic steroid hormones are essential for the physiological development of the prostate gland and are also implicated in pathological processes such as benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. The systemic effect of endocrine activity in the prostate gland has so far been considered of minor importance. LÄS MER
