11. Nuclear safeguards evaluation and analysis techniques for application to nuclear fuel material in Generation IV nuclear energy systems
Sammanfattning : A new generation of nuclear energy systems called Generation IV is under development to ensure that nuclear power will be a safe, reliable and sustainable energy source for the future. This thesis addresses the challenge of making future nuclear energy systems increasingly resistant to nuclear material diversion attempts. LÄS MER
12. Design studies of ELECTRA : European Lead-Cooled Training Reactor
Sammanfattning : A fast neutron research reactor with heavy metal coolant is of interest for Generation IV reactor system develop- ers. In this thesis, the European Lead-Cooled Training Reactor (ELECTRA), which is a low-power lead-cooled fast reactor intended for training purposes, is analyzed. The main aim of the design is that the total nominal power of 0. LÄS MER
13. Advanced In-Core Fuel Cycles for the Gas Turbine-Modular Helium Reactor
Sammanfattning : In 1789 a German chemist, Martin Heinrich Klaproth, announced the discovery of a new element: uranium; few years later, the head of father of the modern chemistry, Antoine Lavoisier, was swept away by guillotine: a new era was destined to be opened, either where energy would have been produced in large scale by nuclear processes delivering hundreds of times the energy of chemical processes or where a mass of people, revolutionary or not, would have been melted down into a couple of seconds. After a quite long time, on the 2nd December 1942, the first nuclear reactor has been put into operation by Enrico Fermi in Chicago; few years later, came also the dark side utilization of fissile materials in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 14. Modélisation théorique de la spectroscopie d'actinides des solvatés
Sammanfattning : The framework of this PhD is the interpretation of Nuclear Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion experiments performed on solvated U4+, NpO2+ and PuO22+, which all have an f2 configuration. Unexpectedly the two actinyl ions have a much higher relaxivity than U4+. LÄS MER
15. Phenyl Trifluoromethyl Sulfone as Diluent in a Grouped ActiNide EXtraction Process
Sammanfattning : The demand for electricity and electrical energy is very high both in Sweden and in the other industrialised countries in the world. An upgrade of the nuclear power plants, including recycling of the used nuclear fuel, would make nuclear power a sustainable energy option. Over the years different types of nuclear reactors have been developed. LÄS MER
