  1. 21. Bowel irradiation: the effects on inflammation and matrix-metalloproteinases

    Författare :ANDREA POLISTENA; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :Radiotherapy; Inflammation; Colorectal Cancer; MMP-7; Matrilysin; Bacteria;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Radiotherapy is a valid treatment in cancer multimodal management but it is affected by severe systemic and local side effects. A murine small bowel model was used for the investigation of inflammatory features and apoptosis of local radiotherapy. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Inflammatory mechanisms in experimental CNS trauma

    Författare :Jonas Isaksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Spinal cord injury; brain injury; ICAM-1; P-selectin; iNOS; inflammation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries are important causes of premature death and permanentdisability. To improve the treatment of CNS-injured patients increased knowledge about thepathophysiological events that mediate death or dysfunction of nervous tissue is urgently needed. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Macroalgae in tropical seascapes : regulating factors and functions in the coastal ecosystem

    Författare :Gustaf Lilliesköld Sjöö; Max Troell; Nils Kautsky; Lena Kautsky; Alina Szmant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Macroalgae; Coral reefs; Nutrients; Herbivory; Ecological functions; East Africa; Regulating factors; Anthropogenic influence; Seaweed farming; Bioindicator; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Although macroalgae usually are inconspicuous on pristine coral reefs, they often thrive on reefs that are subjected to various types of anthropogenic disturbance. This thesis consists of five papers and investigates how biomass and composition of macroalgal communities on coral reefs are affected by regulating factors, such as nutrient availability, herbivory, substrate availability and hydrodynamic forces. 4. 24. Apoptosis Regulation in Multiple Myeloma

    Författare :Lina Dimberg; Helena Jernberg Wiklund; Kenneth Nilsson; Marie Arsenian Henriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biomedicine; multiple myeloma; apoptosis; survival; IFN; Stat1; Stat3; IGF-I; RTK inhibitor; PPP; IAP; Fas CD95; dexamethasone; Biomedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a virtually incurable B cell malignancy of the bone marrow. One important part of tumor progression and an obstacle for successful therapy is resistance to apoptosis. To combat this resistance, the mechanisms of apoptosis and survival in MM must be better defined. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Immune profile from high-risk to onset of Type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Anna Rydén; Maria Faresjö; Johnny Ludvigsson; Malin Flodström-Tullberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is most often diagnosed early in life and is usually the result of an autoimmune attack on the insulin producing β-cells of the pancreas, leading to a lack of insulin secretion and life-long insulin treatment. The search for possible targets pin-pointing the β-cell destruction is a constant endeavour in the pursuit to prevent T1D onset. LÄS MER
