11. The Lagrangian Stochastic Advective-Reactive Approach to Modeling Solute Transport in Hydrological Systems
Sammanfattning : The Lagrangian stochastic advective-reactive modelingapproach has been used for analyzing transport of bothnonreactive and reactive solutes in different hydrologicalsystems (structured soil, groundwater, mining waste rockdeposits and surface waters including single stream and networkof streams) and at different spatio-temporal scales (rangingfrom laboratory column-scale to catchment-scale). Further, afirst step has been taken to extending the Lagrangianstochastic advective-reactive modeling methodology to integratethe soil-groundwater-stream transport through a catchment. LÄS MER
12. Water and Heat Transport in Road Structures : Development of Mechanistic Models
Sammanfattning : The coupled transport of water and heat, involving freezing and thawing, in the road structure and its immediate environment is important to consider for optimal design and maintenance of roads and when assessing solute transport, of e.g. de-icing salt, from roads. LÄS MER
13. The value of experimental data and modelling for exploration of hydrological functioning: The case of a till hillslope
Sammanfattning : Successfully modeling one system response (e.g. hydrograph or solute transport) sometimes gives the false sense of well-characterizing the modeled system. This is partly because of the well-known equifinality issue; during the calibration process multiple parameter combinations can produce similarly good results. LÄS MER
14. Speciation and Transport of Radionuclides from the Chernobyl Accident within the Gideå Site
Sammanfattning : The transport and redistribution of radionuclides originating from the Chernobyl accident were studied within a 1 km2 area in the northeastern part of Sweden (the Gideå site). Physical and chemical speciation of the fallout radionuclides were investigated on water samples collected within the study site using techniques developed especially for this purpose. LÄS MER
15. Matrix Suction in Silt and Sand Slopes. Significance and Practical Use in Stability Analysis
Sammanfattning : Conventional stability analysis in unsaturated silt and sand slopes often results in unrealistically low factors of safety. The purpose of the study was to increase the knowledge and the understanding of the unsaturated zone and its matrix suction in order to facilitate more elaborate stability analyses of silt and sand slopes.
