1. Rheology of Wheat Flour Doughs at Large Deformations and the Relation to Baking Quality and Physical Structure
Sammanfattning : The effects on dough rheology at large deformations in elongational flow and shear flow have been studied. The results are related to bread making quality in terms of bread volume and to the physical structure of the dough. A new method for evaluation of an instrumented mixograph is reported. LÄS MER

3. Fluid flow through and deformation of wood fiber networks
Sammanfattning : Cellulose-based commercial items such as paper and laminated flooring are vital to the local economy of northern Sweden. These products are commonly manufactured in suspension where fluids such as water or air are drained through the fiber network in some value-added steps in the manufacturing process. LÄS MER
4. Strength and deformability of fractured rocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a systematic numerical modeling framework to simulate the stress-deformation and coupled stress-deformation-flow processes by performing uniaxial and biaxial compressive tests on fractured rock models with considering the effects of different loading conditions, different loading directions (anisotropy), and coupled hydro-mechanical processes for evaluating strength and deformability behavior of fractured rocks. By using code UDEC of discrete element method (DEM), a series of numerical experiments were conducted on discrete fracture network models (DFN) at an established representative elementary volume (REV), based on realistic geometrical and mechanical data of fracture systems from field mapping at Sellafield, UK. 5. Numerical Modeling of Plasticity in FCC Crystalline Materials Using Discrete Dislocation Dynamics
Sammanfattning : Plasticity in crystalline solids is controlled by the microscopic line defects known as “dislocations”. Decisive role of dislocations in crystal plasticity in addition to fundamentals of plastic deformation are presented in the current thesis work. LÄS MER
