  1. 1. Resource Allocation under Uncertainty : Applications in Mobile Communications

    Författare :Mathias Johansson; Anders Ahlén; Mikael Sternad; Vikram Krishnamurthy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; resource allocation; uncertainty; probability theory as logic; scheduling; multiuser diversity; Jaynes; maximum entropy; Bayesian probability theory; Signalbehandling; Signal processing; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with scheduling the use of resources, or allocating resources, so as to meet future demands for the entities produced by the resources. We consider applications in mobile communications such as scheduling users' transmissions so that the amount of transmitted information is maximized, and scenarios in the manufacturing industry where the task is to distribute work among production units so as to minimize the number of missed orders. 2. 2. Bortom kontroll? : Den svenska kemikalieövervakningens logik

    Författare :Simon Haikola; Jonas Anshelm; Per Gyberg; Magnus Boström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Chemicals control; chemicals regulation; uncertainty; risk regulation; environmental monitoring; simulacra; environmental politics; substitution principle; precautionary principle; Kemikaliekontroll; kemikaliereglering; osäkerhet; riskreglering; miljögiftsövervakning; miljöövervakning; simulacra; miljöpolitik; kemikaliepolitik; produktvalsprincipen; försiktighetsprincipen;

    Sammanfattning : Kemikalier utgör en grundläggande beståndsdel av det senindustriella samhället, och en omfattande produktion av kemikalier brukar allmänt anses som en nödvändig förutsättning för teknisk utveckling och ekonomisk tillväxt. I Sverige ledde miljölarmen om DDT, PCB och kvicksilver på 1960- och 1970-talet till inrättandet av ett system för kemikaliekontroll som brukar framhållas som ett av världens främsta. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Comparing Procurement Methods in Road Construction Projects : Influence on Uncertainty, Interaction and Knowledge

    Författare :Robert Lundström; Martin Johanson; Amjad Hadjikhani; Jaana Tähtinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Procurement methods; uncertainty; interaction; knowledge; construction; network; project; Business Studies; Företagsekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : The construction sector is often considered to show a number of limitations regarding efficiency and effectiveness, conclusions normally drawn irrespective of project procurement method used, and despite the common assumption that differences among approaches exist regarding these aspects. The study investigates differences and similarities among procurement methods using a longitudinal multi-case study based on two comparatively large infrastructure projects: a traditional so-called design-bid-build project and an unconventional so-called design-build-maintain project. 4. 4. Reliable Uncertainty Quantification in Statistical Learning

    Författare :David Widmann; Fredrik Lindsten; Dave Zachariah; Erik Sjöblom; Dino Sejdinovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reliability; Calibration; Uncertainty; Probabilistic Model; Prediction; Julia; Machine learning; Maskininlärning;

    Sammanfattning : Mathematical models are powerful yet simplified abstractions used to study, explain, and predict the behavior of systems of interest. This thesis is concerned with their latter application as predictive models. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Uncertainty quantification for time varying quantities in turbulent flows

    Författare :Donnatella Xavier; Philipp Schlatter; Saleh Rezaeiravesh; Ricardo Vinuesa; David Moxey; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; uncertainty; variance estimator; autoregressive models; turbulence; computational fluid dynamics; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Quantification of uncertainty in results is crucial in both experiments and simulations of turbulence, yet this practice is notably underutilized. This thesis project delves into statistical tools within the framework of uncertainty quantification to systematically quantify uncertainties that occur in the time varying quantities of turbulence.
