11. Development of Nanocellulose Materials for Nano-filtration and Microfluidic Cell Culture
Sammanfattning : Nanocellulose, cellulose nanofibrils or nanocrystals, is an interesting material for a wide range of applications. It can be obtained from abundant sources (higher plants, bacteria and algae), and presents many advantages to be used in the biomedical field such as biological safety, high surface area, porosity, and tailorable rheological properties. 12. Novel radiation targets in the endothelium and heart muscle
Sammanfattning : Worldwide, people are being exposed to natural and man-made sources of radiation. Epidemiological studies have shown an increased risk of vascular diseases in populations that have been exposed to ionizing radiation. Vascular endothelium is implicated as one of the targets for radiation leading to the development of cardiovascular diseases. LÄS MER
13. Group B streptococcal infections in neonates : Clinical and pathogenic aspects
Sammanfattning : Clinical and pathogenic aspects of Group B streptococci (GBS), as a major pathogen responsible of invasive disease in newborn infants, were investigated.Cases of neonatal septicaemia during 1981-1994 were studied at Orebro Medical Centre Hospital. 132 children ful1filled laboratory and clinical criteria for neonatal septicaemia. 14. Development of a New Biomechanical ex vivo Perfusion System - Studies on effects of biomechanical and inflammatory stress on hemostatic genes in human vascular endothelium
Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface constantly exposed to biomechanical forces such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical stress is involved in the pathophysiological process of the vessel wall and thus affects vascular remodeling, atherosclerosis and thrombogenesis. LÄS MER
15. Host cell adhesion of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes
Sammanfattning : Excessive binding of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes to the microvascular endothelium (cytoadherence) and to uninfected eryrthrocytes (rosetting) are regarded as key-events in the development of a severe malaria infection. P. falciparum rosetting was confirmed to be associated with the development of cerebral malaria in The Gambia. LÄS MER
