2. Metal Particles – Hazard or Risk? Elaboration and Implementation of a Research Strategy from a Surface and Corrosion Perspective
Sammanfattning : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. LÄS MER
3. Fine and Ultrafine Particles from Combustion Sources - Investigations with In-situ Techniques
Sammanfattning : Fine airborne particles are associated with adverse health effects in the human population. The aim of this research was to develop and evaluate methods for in-situ characterisation of fine and ultrafine particles and to determine their deposition in the human airways. LÄS MER
4. Ultrafine Particles in Indoor Air. Measurements and modelling
Sammanfattning : Clean air is one of the most fundamental human needs. Since people spen on average over 85% of their time indoors at work, home, school etc., human exposure to air pollution may mostly occur indoors. LÄS MER
5. Removal of ultrafine particles by intermediate air filters in ventilation systems. Evaluation of performance and analysis of applications
Sammanfattning : Epidemiological and toxicological studies demonstrate that ultrafine particles (UFPs) are strongly related with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and syndromes. One common method to reduce human exposure to particulate air pollution is the use of intermediate class filters (F5-F9 class filters according to EN779:2002). LÄS MER
