  1. 16. Mechanisms underlying inflammation, symptoms and quality of life in ulcerative colitis

    Författare :Georgios Mavroudis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ulcerative colitis; functional bowel disorders; irritable bowel syndrome; gut immunology; visceral hypersensitivity; health-related quality of life;

    Sammanfattning : A substantial proportion of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) in remission demonstrate gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, despite the absence of ongoing inflammation in the colon. The underlying mechanisms of these symptoms are still not clear. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Clinical and Experimental Studies on Inflammatory Bowel Disease with special emphasis on Collagenous Colitis

    Författare :Michael Wagner; Marie Carlson; Maria Lampinen; Per Sangfelt; Erik Hertervig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Collagenous colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; ulcerative colitis; Crohn´s disease; faecal markers; eosinophil; T-cells; ECP; EPX; MPO; calprotectin; flowcytometry; chromogranin A; chromogranin B; secretoneurin; budesonide; Gastroenterology; Gastroenterologi; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collagenous colitis (CC). We investigated mucosal eosinophil and neutrophil granulocytes and T-cells involved in the inflammatory processes and aimed at determining whether these processes are reflected in the faecal (F) contents of specific proteins secreted by cells in the intestinal mucosa. 3. 18. Colonic barrier function in ulcerative colitis - Interactions between ion and mucus secretion

    Författare :Jenny K Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestine; mucus; ion transport; colitis; CFTR;

    Sammanfattning : Anion and mucus secretions have traditionally been looked upon as two separate parts of the epithelial defense system. The importance of anion secretion has been attributed to its role in creating the driving force for fluid secretion that flushes the epithelium from bacteria, while mucus secretion ensures protection via the mucus layer that forms a physical barrier between the bacteria and the epithelium. 4. 19. The neuronal and non-neuronal substance P, VIP and cholinergic systems in the colon in ulcerative colitis

    Författare :Maria Jönsson; Sture Forsgren; Örjan Norrgård; Johan D Söderholm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ulcerative colitis; neuropeptides; substance P; VIP; non-neuronal cholinergic system; Anatomy; Anatomi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory bowel disease. Neuropeptides, especially vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and substance P (SP), have long been considered to play key roles in UC. Among other effects, these neuropeptides have trophic and growth-modulating as well as wound-healing effects. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Epidemiological aspects of microscopic colitis

    Författare :Anna Wickbom; Curt Tysk; Johan Bohr; Nils Nyhlin; Bodil Ohlsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microscopic colitis; epidemiology; risk factors; comorbidity; health-related quality of life;

    Sammanfattning : Microscopic colitis (MC) constitutes the main entities collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC), diseases that are relatively recently described (in 1976 and 1989, respectively).The aims of this thesis were to study the epidemiology of MC, to describe how these diseases affect patients in terms of symptom burden and health-related quality of life (HRQoL), to study potential risk factors such as familial factors, childhood circumstances, educational level, marital status, smoking and comorbidity, and to describe a cohort of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn’s disease (CD) and subsequent MC, and vice versa.
