21. Assessment and Treatment of Impaired Insulin- Secretion and Action in Type 2 Diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a disease characterised by varying degrees of defect in insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity and associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Optimal glycaemic control reduces the progression of diabetic complications. LÄS MER
22. FOXC2 and CAPN10 as candidate genes for obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : The worldwide prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes is increasing rapidly. Both disorders depend on genetic and environmental factors. The studies included in this thesis investigated the possible association of the FOXC2 and CAPN10 genes with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and related phenotypes. LÄS MER
23. Brain function and glucocorticoids in obesity and type 2 diabetes including effects of lifestyle interventions
Sammanfattning : Background Obesity and associated metabolic dysregulation are linked to impaired cognitive function and alterations in brain structure, which increases the risk of age-related dementia. Increased glucocorticoid (GC) exposure may be a potential mediator of these negative effects on the brain. LÄS MER
24. Bariatric surgery as treatment of type 2 diabetes – clinical and mechanistic aspects
Sammanfattning : Bariatric surgery can rapidly improve glycemic control and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with T2D and obesity. These improvements appear to be partly independent of weight loss, however, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. LÄS MER
25. The genetic background of gestational diabetes mellitus
Sammanfattning : The aims of this work is to better determine the genetic background of gestational diabetes (GDM) and to examine how specific genes affect the development of diabetes post partum. In the DiPiS (Diabetes Prediction in Skåne) study we typed for HLA-DQB1 alleled, the transcription factor 7-like 2(TCF7L2) rs7903146, rs12255372 and rs7901695 SNPs, the 1858 C>T SNP of the protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor 22 (PTPN22) gene and we tested for the presence of islet cell autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65), insulinoma-associated antigen 2 (IA-2) and insulin in women who had been diagnosed with GDM at least once during 2000-2004.
