6. Electron Tunneling and Field-Effect Devices in mm-Wave Circuits
Sammanfattning : Short high-frequency electromagnetic pulses, also referred to as wavelets, are considered for use in various short-range impulse based ultra-wideband applications, such as communication, imaging, radar, spectroscopy, and localization. This thesis investigates field-effect and tunneling based semiconductor devices and their operation in millimeter-wave (mm-wave) impulse transceivers. LÄS MER
7. Semiconductor Nanowires: Epitaxy and Applications
Sammanfattning : Semiconductor nanowires are nanoscale objects formed by bottom-up synthesis. In recent years their unique properties have been exploited in fields such as electronics, photonics, sensors and the life sciences. In this work, the epitaxial growth of nanowires and their applications were studied. LÄS MER
8. Millimeter-Wave Impulse Radio
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the opportunity of wireless multi-gigabit per second communication at the millimeter-wave (mmW) frequencies around 60 GHz by using impulse radio and nanoelectronics. Today most wireless communication take place in the microwave region, where several different systems and applications are crowding the narrow-band channels. LÄS MER
9. Tunneling Based Electronic Devices
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns different kinds of tunneling based devices all showing negative differential resistance. The thesis is divided in three parts, resonant tunneling transistors, Esaki diodes and coupled zero dimensional systems. LÄS MER
10. Quantum Transport in Heterostructure Nanowire Devices
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates electronic transport in several types of novel heterostructure nanowires. The first part of the thesis focuses on band-to-band mechanisms in heterostructure nanowires for low-power electronics. First, tunnel field-effect transistors (TFETs) based on InP/GaAs heterostructure nanowires with n-i-p doping profile are explored. LÄS MER
