  1. 16. From a Road Less Travelled to a Worn Path: Three-Dimensional Tumour Models for Cancer Research and Therapeutics

    Författare :Atena Malakpour Permlid; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D tumour models; scaffold-based cultures; cancer cells; electrospun scaffolds; extracellular matrix; tumour microenvironment; high-throughput screening; animal-free; donor herd horse serum; fibroblasts;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is the second leading cause of death among both men and women worldwide. During therecent years, three-dimensional (3D) tumour models have gained increasing interest as a pre-clinicalplatform for screening of compounds for potential use in cancer therapy. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Inverse Problems for Tumour Growth Models and Neural ODEs

    Författare :Rym Jaroudi; George Baravdish; Tomas Johansson; Jonas Unger; Gabriel Eilertsen; Lukáš Malý; Torbjörn Lundh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the application of methods and techniques from the theory of inverse problems and differential equations to study models arising in the areas of mathematical oncology and deep learning. The first problem studied is to develop methods to perform numerical simulations with full 3-dimensional brain imaging data of reaction-diffusion models for tumour growth forwards as well as backwards in time with the goal of enabling the numerical reconstruction of the source of the tumour given an image (or similar data) at a later stage in time of the tumour. 3. 18. Growth control mechanisms in normal and neoplastic mammalian cells

    Författare :Mozhgan Afrakhte; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; PDGF-AA; TGF-beta; Inhibitory SMADs; Growth inhibition; CDK; CKI; Cdc25A; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The main theme of the studies presented in this thesis is, the growth control mechanisms whose loss in normal cells predispose to or cause cancer. The balance between growth inhibitory and stimulatory mechanisms is crucial for the development and maintenance of a normal animal. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Importance of Hyaluronan Metabolism and Signalling in Tumour Progression

    Författare :Berit Bernert; Paraskevi Heldin; Peter Prehm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; CD44; cancer; growth factors;

    Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan, an unbranched glycosaminoglycan of the extracellular matrix, has an amazingly simple structure. Initially thought to fulfil only hydrating and space-filling functions in tissues, evidence generated during the past decades shows that hyaluronan is involved in intriguingly complex signalling events in health and disease. 5. 20. Cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in hypopituitary patients and metabolic effects of growth hormone treatment

    Författare :Birgitta Bulow; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glucose metabolism; growth hormone replacement; growth hormone deficiency; long-term survival; craniopharyngioma; cardiovascular risk factors; Hypopituitarism; cardiovascular mortality; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Premature atherosclerosis, cardiovascular risk factors and increased cardiovascular mortality have been shown in patients with hypopituitarism on conventional hormone treatment, but without growth hormone (GH) replacement. The aims of paper I-III were to investigate separately the risks for cerebrovascular and cardiac mortality as well as the incidence of cardiovascular disease in patients with hypopituitarism and to assess the long-term prognosis for patients with craniopharyngioma.
