11. Studies of Mesenchymal Progenitor Cells and Tumour Growth, Integrins and Matrix Metalloproteinases
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we characterize the effect of mesenchymal progenitor cells (MPCs) on tumour growth, and show that MPCs can have inhibitory effects on tumour development. We developed a method to subcutaneously transplant tumour cells, cultured in vitro in a pre-formed gelatin matrix, that made it possible to study the early phases of tumour development. LÄS MER
12. Pancreatic Endocrine Tumourigenesis : Genes of potential importance
Sammanfattning : Understanding signalling pathways that control pancreatic endocrine tumour (PET) development and proliferation may reveal novel targets for therapeutic intervention. The pathogenesis for sporadic and hereditary PETs, apart from mutations of the MEN1 and VHL tumour suppressor genes, is still elusive. LÄS MER
13. Cell cycle control by components of cell anchorage
Sammanfattning : Extracellular factors, such as growth factors and cell anchorage to the extracellular matrix, control when and where cells may proliferate. This control is abolished when a normal cell transforms into a tumour cell. The control of cell proliferation by cell anchorage was elusive and less well studied than the control by growth factors. 14. Growth control mechanisms in normal and neoplastic mammalian cells
Sammanfattning : The main theme of the studies presented in this thesis is, the growth control mechanisms whose loss in normal cells predispose to or cause cancer. The balance between growth inhibitory and stimulatory mechanisms is crucial for the development and maintenance of a normal animal. LÄS MER
15. Targeted radiotherapy in metastatic neuroendocrine tumours: clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Neuroendocrine tumours (NET) often present at a metastatic stage, which diminishes the possibility for curative surgery. Peptide receptor radiotherapy (PRRT) with 177Lu-DOTATATE targets somatostatin receptors, which are overexpressed on NET cells. PRRT results in symptom relief and often tumour control of NETs, but rarely cure. LÄS MER
