    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEN 1; PNET; tumor development; haploinsufficiency; survivin; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type I Syndrome (MEN 1) is a monogenic autosomal dominantly inherited cancer syndrome caused by a heterozygous loss of the MEN1 gene, predisposing for endocrine cell proliferation and tumor formation. MEN 1 carriers classically develop tumors in endocrine organs; the parathyroids, the endocrine pancreas, and the pituitary. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : A treatment strategy for cancer is the suppression of tumor growth by directing an immune response to the tumor vessels, which will destroy the tissue.In this thesis we describe the development of a vaccine that targets antigens expressed around angiogenic vasculature in most solid tumors. 3. 3. Centrosome aberrations and tumor development

    Författare :Kaoru Fujioka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Centrosome; cervical carcinoma; adrenocortical tumor; tetraploidization; p53; griseofulvin; 13-cis-retinoic acid.;

    Sammanfattning : The transformation of a normal cell to a tumor cell is a result of a failure somewhere in a complicated system of coordination, checkpoints and control mechanisms of inhibitors and activators working as triggers and transactivators of genes of importance for cell cycle progression. In the present thesis, the focus is on an important function that controls the segregation of the chromosomes during cell division to the next generation of two daughter cells. LÄS MER

  4. 4. IGF, PI3K and HIF-2 in Normal and Tumor Development

    Författare :Sofie Mohlin; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroblastoma; Hypoxia; Insulin-like Growth Factor; PI3K; HIF-2alpha; Cancer; Development;

    Sammanfattning : Cells adapt to oxygen shortage, hypoxia, by inducing a transcriptional shift governed mainly by Hypoxia Inducible Factor (HIF)-1 and HIF-2. In various cancer forms, including neuroblastoma, high expression of HIF-2α correlates with disseminated disease and poor outcome. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Identification and characterization of candidate genes for neuroblastoma development

    Författare :Cecilia Krona; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cancer; tumor; child; embryonal; neural crest; neuroblastoma; chromosome 1; 1p36; mutation; expression; tumor suppressor gene; UBE4B; KIF1B; PGD; CORT; DFFA; PEX14; ICAT; CASP9; ENO1; MBP1; APITD1; PHOX2B;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common tumor during infancy. It arises from undifferentiated cells in the sympathetic nervous system and is characterized by both clinical and genetic heterogeneity. One of the features of NBs with unfavorable outcome is loss on distal chromosome 1p. LÄS MER
