  1. 1. Cellular targets of HAMLET, their role in tumor cell death and therapeutic potential

    Författare :Aftab Nadeem; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer therapy; colon cancer; bladder cancer; cell death; HAMLET; alpha-lactalbumin; oleate; membrane lipids; nucleotide-binding protein; Ras GTPases; alpha-helical peptides;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-lipid complexes have broad and specific effects against cancers of different origins. HAMLET (Human Alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells) is a complex of partially unfolded α-lactalbumin and oleic acid that kills a wide range of tumor cells but leaves healthy differentiated cells unaffected. 2. 2. Novel Regulators of Brain Tumor Development : – From neural stem cell differentiation to in vivo models

    Författare :Anqi Xiong; Karin Forsberg Nilsson; Joanna Phillips; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; medulloblastoma; neural stem cell; heparanase; NRBP2; dog models; susceptibility;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant brain tumors are diseases with poor prognosis and/or severe long-term side effects of treatment. This thesis aimed to discover novel regulators in brain tumor development, based on studying neural stem cell and progenitor cell (NSPC) differentiation and using animal models to introduce new insights to mechanisms of human brain tumors. 3. 3. Novel Interactors of X-linked Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein : Expression and Effects on Tumor Cell Death

    Författare :Håkan Steen; Dan Lindholm; Bertrand Joseph; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurobiology; XIAP; tumor cell death; apoptosis; caspases; basic helix-loop-helix protein; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Programmed cell death, or apoptosis, has during the last decade received a lot of attention due to its involvement in a large number of pathological conditions. Since death is always irreversible, it is important for cells to fully control the initiation and execution of this process. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Early Blood Cell Formation "in sickness and health, ´till death do us part"

    Författare :Kees-Jan Pronk; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic stem cell; differentiation; regulation; myeloerythropoeisis; myelopoesis; p16INK4A; aging; tumor necrosis factor;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), the ancestors of all blood cells, have the ability to give rise to mature effector cells through a series of developmental steps. This is a tightly regulated, though a highly dynamic process: on the one hand, dysregulation in steady-state could lead to under- or overgrowth of certain blood cell lineages, whereas, on the other hand, demands for certain mature blood cells can change dramatically in cases like bleeding and infections. 5. 5. Imaging-based methods for NK cell studies at the single-cell level

    Författare :Quentin Verron; Björn Önfelt; Niklas Sandström; Michael Dustin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; NK cells; microscopy; single-cell; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system provides defense against infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria and parasites. Besides eliminating extracellular agents, the immune system also constantly monitors our own cells for signs of transformation, including tumor development and virus infection. LÄS MER
