6. Amino acid transport and receptor binding properties in neuropsychiatric disorders using the fibroblast cell model
Sammanfattning : Altered transport of the catecholamines and serotonin precursor amino acids tyrosine and tryptophan, might be one explanation for the dysfunctional neurotransmission implicated in the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In previous studies, an altered amino acid transport has been found in schizophrenia and autism, when using the fibroblast cell model. LÄS MER
7. Peptide-tagged proteins in aqueous two-phase systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with proteins containing peptide tags for improved partitioning in aqueous two-phase systems. Qualitatively the peptide-tagged protein partitioning could be predicted from peptide data, i.e. partitioning trends found for peptides were also found for the peptide-tagged proteins. LÄS MER
8. Intracellular Uptake and Membrane Binding of Cell-penetrating Peptides: The Influence of Arginines, Tryptophans and Proteoglycans
Sammanfattning : One of the major limitations in the realization of functional gene therapy is efficient intracellular transport of the therapeutic macromolecules. Amongst several different techniques, cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) have emerged as promising candidates for this purpose. LÄS MER
9. Affinity-, Partition- and Permeability Properties of the Human Red Blood Cell Membrane and Biomembrane Models, with Emphasis on the GLUT1 Glucose Transporter
Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. 10. Antimicrobial Peptide Interactions with Phospholipid Membranes : Effects of Peptide and Lipid Composition on Membrane Adsorption and Disruption
Sammanfattning : The interactions between antimicrobial peptides and phospholipid membranes were investigated, in terms of lipid headgroup variations and the role of cholesterol, as well as peptide composition and structure. Also strategies for increasing proteolytic stability were evaluated. LÄS MER
