  1. 1. Phytoplankton and bacterioplankton dynamics in a polymictic tropical lake

    Författare :Rolf Erikson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; tropical lake; algae; bacteria; regulation; dynamics; interaction; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Phytoplankton and bacterioplankton dynamics in lakes are regulated by a multitude of factors such as light, temperature, water column mixing, nutrients, organic substrates, grazing, and food web structure. Tropical lakes are especially interesting to study because of the relative constancy of several of these factors. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Greenhouse gas emission from tropical reservoirs : Spatial and temporal dynamics

    Författare :Annika Linkhorst; Sebastian Sobek; Frédéric Guérin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methane; carbon dioxide; climate; carbon cycle; lake; limnology; inland water;

    Sammanfattning : The emission of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from reservoirs has been estimated to make up for about 1.3% of the global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission. The impoundment of a river leads to the accumulation of sediment that is brought in from inflowing rivers, and the sediment organic matter is degraded to CH4 and CO2. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Diatoms in Lake Duluti : Tracking Environmental Variability in Northern Tanzania during the Past 1000 Years

    Författare :Helena Öberg; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Karin Holmgren; Jan Risberg; Robert Marchant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleolimnology; Tanzania; Diatoms; Climate change; Crater lake; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The tropics are the regions which are least understood climatically and new data on past climate variability is necessary for reliable future modeling of climate change. This thesis contributes with new paleoenvironmental information from a small crater lake in northern Tanzania and provides an additional link between the integrated history of climate, environment and socioeconomic variability in tropical Africa. 4. 4. Lake Hydrodynamics and Pollution Transport under Climate Change : The Case of Lake Victoria

    Författare :Seema Paul; Henrik Ernstson; Zahra Kalantari; Abhijit Mukherjee; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bathymetry mapping; model verification; water balance; correlation; tracer transport; wind hydrodynamics; pollution and nutrient transport; climate effect; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : A very small part of the total earth’s water is freshwater (only 2.5 %). Unfortunately, due to climate change and pervasive manmade activities, surface freshwater quality in many places of the world has become degraded. LÄS MER
