16. Indirect effects of predation in human-modified landscapes
Sammanfattning : Large carnivores affect prey species, with cascading effects on entire ecosystems. In anthropogenic regions large carnivores come into conflicts with humans, especially in rural areas where farming and hunting traditions are widespread. As a result, large carnivores have been eradicated from many regions across their historical distribution. LÄS MER
17. Methylmercury in boreal freshwater food webs
Sammanfattning : Mercury (Hg) and bioaccumulation of its organic form methylmercury (MeHg) has long been regarded as a global issue for human and wildlife health. This is of particular concern for Sweden, where forest harvests and wetlands remain hotspots of MeHg export to boreal freshwaters. LÄS MER
18. Piscivore-prey fish interactions - consequences of changing optical environment
Sammanfattning : Predator-prey interactions are a primary structuring force in aquatic systems. A change in the predator-prey interactions may cause a change in the strength of trophic cascades and even resulting in ecosystem shifts. LÄS MER
19. The decline of great Arctic charr in Lake Vättern : empirical and theoretical analyses of suggested causes
Sammanfattning : Human activity is affecting species and ecosystems all over the world. In aquatic systems negative trends can be seen for many fish stocks and potential consequences of this, for ecosystem structure and functions, are of particular concern. LÄS MER
20. The galanin type 2 receptor: molecular biological, histochemical and electrophysiological studies
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the aim was to probe the distribution and functions of galanin type 2 receptor (GalR2) in the rodent brain. In order to overcome the lack of a reliable antibody to localize GalR2 by immunohistochemistry, we generated a construct which expresses GalR2 tagged with enhanced GFP (EGFP). LÄS MER
