1. Prediction of embryo viability by morphology and metabolomic profiling
Sammanfattning : Abstract The ultimate challenge for all in vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinics is to develop the ability to select for transfer the best single embryo first, from the patient’s cohort of embryos, thereby maximising the chance of pregnancy while the incidence of multiple pregnancies is kept to a minimum and fewer transfer cycles are required. This ambition has driven extensive research and development into methods that can be used to predict embryo viability. LÄS MER
2. Exploring early development and regenerative medicine using CRISPR/Cas9
Sammanfattning : With their intrinsic capacity to self-renew and their potential to differentiate to specialized tissues, human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) have many applications in the fields of cell therapy and developmental biology. By applying clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) genome engineering on selected genes in hESCs, we are able to create cells with desired characteristics. 3. Developmental insights and biomedical potential of human embryonic stem cells : modelling trophoblast differentiation and establishing novel cell therapies for age-related macular degeneration
Sammanfattning : Understanding the molecular pathways responsible for lineage segregation in the preimplantation human embryo is critical in order to fully elucidate the mechanisms involved in pluripotency and differentiation of embryonic stem cells. A significant increase in our comprehension of such processes will lead to an improvement in the quality and efficiency of these cells for applications requiring stem cell maintenance and differentiation, such as regenerative medicine. 4. Exploring the dynamic epigenome in pluripotent stem cells using quantitative methods
Sammanfattning : A totipotent stem cell has the potential to give rise to the trillions of cells in the human body, all carrying the very same genetic information. Through differentiation events, gene expression changes guided by epigenetic mechanisms resulting in specialized phenotypes. LÄS MER
5. Optimisation of human embryonic stem cell derivation and culture : towards clinical quality
Sammanfattning : For clinical grade human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines, a robust derivation and culture system without any substances having animal origin would be optimal. The general aims of these studies have been to gradually improve our hESC derivation and cultures. LÄS MER
