  1. 1. Post-transplantation Hypercholesterolaemia

    Författare :Osama Al Rayyes; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thiazolidinediones; transplantation; low density lipoprotein; insulin; indomethacin; hydrocortisone; fluvastatin; flufenamic acid; Cholesterol; cyclosporine; troglitazone.; Immunology; serology; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The multidrug regimen, cyclosporine, corticosteroids, and azathioprine, is used in transplantation centres to prevent organ rejection. Several clinical studies have shown that cyclosporine and corticosteroids to cause increases in low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, with subsequent development of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Endotoxin-, glutamate- and drug-induced inflammation and cytotoxicity with emphasis on signal transduction mechanisms

    Författare :Ylva Edling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammatory cells such as monocytes and glial cells play an important role in the pathogenesis of ischemic- or drug-induced brain or liver injury. Excessive concentrations of glutamate is toxic to neural cells, and triggers a series of transcriptional events beginning with the expression of the immediate early genes like c-fos and c-jun, which in turn affect the expression of other genes necessary for the development of brain injury. 3. 3. Novel human in vitro systems for studies of drug inducted hepatotoxicity

    Författare :Louise Sivertsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a major human health concern, estimated to account for about half of all cases of acute liver failure in the general population. DILI also represents a significant problem in drug discovery, being one of the most common reasons for regulatory actions, including boxed warnings, restricted marketing and withdrawals of marketed drugs. 4. 4. Studies on nuclear receptors involved in drug metabolism

    Författare :Göran Bertilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The molecular basis for drug metabolism is starting to emerge as a result of cloning and characterization of a group of nuclear receptors that respond to drugs by transcriptional regulation of key genes encoding enzymes involved in metabolism of commonly used drugs. This thesis describes the identification and functional, as well as the structural, characterization of one of these receptors, the human pregnenolone activated receptor (hPAR, NR1I2) that also has been referred to as the pregnane X receptor (PXR) or the steroid and xenobiotic receptor (SXR) by others. 5. 5. The endocannabinoid system : a translational study from Achilles tendinosis to cyclooxygenase

    Författare :Emmelie Björklund; Christopher Fowler; Peter Zygmunt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The endogenous cannabinoids anandamide (arachidonoyl ethanolamide, AEA) and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol (2-AG) exert their effect by activating cannabinoid receptors (CB). These receptors mediate a broad range of physiological functions such as beneficial effects in pain and inflammation, although little is known about the expression of CB receptors in human pain conditions.
