26. Drug discovery targeting non-amyloid pathways in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia with almost 50 million people affected and unfortunately, no cure or treatment to halt the disease progression is available. In the hereditary forms of AD, an overproduction of amyloid β (Aβ) and the Aβ plaque formation are the basis for the amyloid hypothesis of AD, while several additional factors seem to influence the likelihood to develop sporadic forms of AD. 27. Neuropeptides and neurotrophins in arthritis : studies on the human and mouse knee joint
Sammanfattning : Neuropeptides, such as substance P (SP) and bombesin/gastrin-releasing peptide (BN/GRP), and neurotrophins are involved in neuro-immunomodulatory processes and have marked trophic, growth-promoting and inflammation-modulating properties. The impact of these modulators in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is, however, unclear. LÄS MER
28. Neuropharmacological studies of Parkinson's disease with some emphasis on serotonin transmission
Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by hypokinesia, rigidity, tremor, gait disturbances and depression. There is an accumulative of protein aggregates, Lewy bodies, which appear to begin in the brainstem and progress caudorostrally. LÄS MER
29. Changes in sensory systems during aging : an experimental study in the rat
Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with sensorimotor disturbances, including increased proprioceptive thresholds. The present study aimed to clarify the occurrence of structural and biochemical alterations in sensory systems of behaviorally characterized aged rats. LÄS MER
30. Spinal motoneurons and molecules related to neurotrophic function after axon injury
Sammanfattning : The capacity of motoneurons to survive and regenerate new axons after injuries such as axotomy depends on a great variety of parameters. After sciatic nerve transection (SNT) in adult rats and to some extent after a ventral funiculus lesion (VFL), many cells survive and regeneration is highly prioritized. LÄS MER
