6. PPARs in the regulation of gene expression and lipid metabolism in the liver
Sammanfattning : Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors, regulating genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Synthetic PPARalpha agonists used in clinic are the fibrates, and their hypotriglyceridemic effect is believed to be the result of decreased VLDL triglyceride secretion and increased turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles in the circulation. 7. Smoking and Breast Cancer
Sammanfattning : Ex-smokers are exposed to a higher breast cancer risk than are never smokers. This conclusion is based on a follow-up of the 10 902 women in the Malmö Preventive Project. The 31% higher incidence in ex-smokers remained statistically significant when other risk factors were taken into account in the analysis. LÄS MER
8. Glycerol kinase deficiency. Clinical, biochemical, and genetic aspects
Sammanfattning : Glycerol kinase deficiency (GKD, MIM 307030) is an X-linked recessive inborn error of metabolism occurring isolated or in an Xp contiguous gene syndrome with adrenal hypoplasia and/or Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The gene syndrome is due to deletions in the p21 region on the X chromosome. LÄS MER
9. Women, diabetes and coronary heart disease
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of the present study was to explore the reason why women with diabetes lose the female protection against MI, by investigating cardiovascular risk factors, markers of inflammation, early predictors for future development of diabetes and clinical manifestations in diabetes and coronary heart disease.Subjects and methods: Women with (n=29), and without diabetes (DM) (n=64), hospitalised with a smyocardial infarction ( MI) 1994-96, were compared with DM-women without MI (n=46) and healthy controls (n=125). 10. Topical formulations, design and drug delivery : "A dive into water"
Sammanfattning : Water is a vital component regulating the properties of topical formulations and their interaction with biological barriers, such as skin and mucosa. Changing the watercontent within the frame of the pharmaceutical triangle will have a huge impact on which type of formulation, such as a cream, ointment, gel, or lotion, is formed, as well as the physical properties of the formulation.
