  1. 6. Effect of water on the glass transition and properties of solid-state pharmaceutical formulations

    Författare :Ekaterina Bogdanova; Vitaly Kocherbitov; Thomas Rades; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :glass transition; glass transition temperature; relaxation; sucrose; trehalose; maltodextrin; lysozyme; unfolding; hydration; solid-stae; sorption calorimetry; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge of the glassy state and the glass transition phenomenon and to evaluate the effect of water on the glassy state. To accomplish this, investigations were focused on the amorphous sucrose-water (paper I, II, III), trehalose-water (paper I), maltodextrin-water (paper I), and lysozyme-sucrose-water (paper IV) systems. 2. 7. Abiotic Stress Tolerance. Metabolic and Physiological Effects of Compatible Solutes and Calmodulin on E. coli and Tobacco

    Författare :Jenny Lindberg; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Abiotic stress; compatible solutes; osmotic stress; osmoprotectants; trehalose; calmodulin; E. coli; N. tabacum; genetic engineering; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; glycine betaine;

    Sammanfattning : In their natural habitats, bacteria and plants can be exposed to abiotic stresses such as drought, high salt concentrations and freezing, which are factors limiting their capacity for growth and proliferation. To withstand environmental stresses, they have evolved specific stress responses. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Trehalose metabolism and stress resistance in Aspergillus niger

    Författare :Åsa Svanström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Food spoilage by filamentous fungi, moulds, is a global issue of great significance. Mould growth can cause food losses due to deterioration, and adverse health effects due to toxin production. Conidia, asexual spores, are the main factors of dispersal and infection in most food-relevant moulds. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Metabolic Engineering of Disaccharide Catabolism for Polysaccharide Formation in Lactococcus lactis and Streptococcus thermophilus

    Författare :Fredrik Levander; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; metabolic engineering; exopolysaccharide; polysaccharide; disaccharide; Streptococcus thermophilus; lactic acid bacteria; Lactococcus lactis; Biochemical technology; Biokemisk teknik; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Exopolysaccharides (EPSs) produced by the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) Lactococcus lactis and Streptococcus thermophilus are important for the rheological behaviour and texture of a variety of fermented food products. Furthermore, EPSs from food-grade LAB have potential as food additives and functional food ingredients with both health and economic benefits. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Live Biotherapeutics : importance of formulation and lyophilization parametersand an example of a clinical application

    Författare :Nisha Tyagi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, probiotics have expanded from their traditional classification as “health promoting food” to the development of live biotherapeutic products (LBP). Traditional probiotics are marketed as food/dietary supplements while LBPs are drug products intended for treatment or prevention of diseases. LÄS MER
