  1. 21. Establishment and growth of Scots pine and Norway spruce : a comparison between species

    Författare :Oscar Nilsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The two by far most common and economically important tree species in Sweden are Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst). LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; acoustic velocity; Betula spp.; dynamic MOE; genetic parameters; grain angle; hardwood; Itrax densitometry; mixed forests; non-destructive testing; stem form; akustisk velocitet; Betula spp.; blandskog; densitometri; genetiska parametrar; icke destruktiva metoder; Itrax; lövträ; skogsodling; stamkvalitet; vedsegenskaper; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Swedish tree species of birch (silver: Betula pendula and downy: B. pubescens) are often neglected during forest management activities, resulting in low value logs. This thesis investigated birch stem characteristics and wood properties important for solid wood products, in genetics and management trials in southern Sweden. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Genetics of disease resistance in Norway spruce (Picea abies) : a look in the past with an eye to the future

    Författare :Hernán Dario Capador-Barreto; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Trees have evolved strategies to fight enemies and survive during their million-year history. These strategies have been shaped by natural selection and are reflected in their genomes today. Tree planting is a priority for governments, but there is a risk that trees selected by humans will lack alleles important for disease resistance. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Do forests have an impact on water availability? : Assessing the effects of heterogeneous land use on streamflow in two monsoonal river basins

    Författare :Julie Wilk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to assess the effects of land use changes on streamflow in two river basins, the upper Bhavani in south India and the upper Nam Pang in northeast Thailand. In the Nam Pang basin, the forest cover has decreased from 80% to 27% in the last 30 years. Despite this, almost no changes in streamflow patterns or amountswere found. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Rethinking Urban Nature : Maintaining Capacity for Ecosystem Service Generation in a Human Dominated World

    Författare :Jakob Lundberg; Thomas Elmqvist; Carl Folke; Johan Colding; Steven N. Handel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Human action has transformed the major part of the Earth’s ecosystems. A growing human population puts further pressure on dynamic landscapes and resources. Crucially, for the first time in history, most people live in cities and environmental change has become truly global. LÄS MER
