1. DNA repair and the p53 pathway in ischemic and traumatic brain injury
Sammanfattning : Ischemic and traumatic brain damage are major causes of disability and death. While much effort has been spent to develop pharmacological treatments for these conditions, no neuroprotective drugs are in clinical use. LÄS MER
2. Experimental Traumatic Brain Injury and Cell Death - in vivo and in vitro aspects
Sammanfattning : Traumatic and ischemic brain damage are major causes of disability and death. While much effort has been spent on developing pharmacological treatments for these conditions, no neuroprotective drugs are in clinical use. LÄS MER
3. Effects of Rho kinase, prostacyclin and L-arginine on microvascular permeability and perfusion
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents some effects of Rho kinase, prostacyclin (PGI2) and nitric oxide (NO) in relation to trauma and inflammation by evaluating their effects on microvascular perfusion and permeability in mouse brain and in cat skeletal muscle. PGI2 and NO are endogenous vasoactive substances produced by the endothelium. LÄS MER
4. Transvascular fluid exchange with application to the brain. An experimental study in cat skeletal muscle and brain
Sammanfattning : This study evaluated transcapillary fluid exchange in the cat brain and in a cat skeletal muscle enclosed in a plethysmograph. A method for determination of capillary permeability (capillary filtration coefficient and reflection coefficient) and effects of transcapillary hydrostatic pressure changes were studied We found that capillary fluid permeability in a tissue can be determined by the capillary filtration coefficient, even when arterial pressure and vascular tone are changed. 5. Perspectives of anxiety in stressful environments : Prospective studies in real-life settings
Sammanfattning : The present thesis deals with perspectives of anxiety experienced in stressful environments. As such two major issues are addressed. The first issue is whether increased trait anxiety during work in a high-stress environment is related to impaired performance on executive control tasks. LÄS MER
