  1. 16. Theoretical and Computational Studies on the Physics of Applied Magnetism : Magnetocrystalline Anisotropy of Transition Metal Magnets and Magnetic Effects in Elastic Electron Scattering

    Författare :Alexander Edström; Jan Rusz; Olle Eriksson; Patrick Bruno; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetism; Magnetic anisotropy; DFT; Permanent magnets; Electron vortex beams; Electron microscopy; Electron scattering; Multislice methods; Magnetism; magnetisk anisotropi; permanentmagneter; täthetsfunktionalteori; elektronmikroskopi; elektronvirvelstrålar; elektronspridningsteori; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, two selected topics in magnetism are studied using theoretical modelling and computational methods. The first of these is the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) of transition metal based magnets. In particular, ways of finding 3d transition metal based materials with large MAE are considered. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Characterization of crystalline materials by rotation electron diffraction : Phase identification and structure determination

    Författare :Yifeng Yun; Xiaodong Zou; Christian W. Lehmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron microscopy; phase identification; rotation electron diffraction; structure determination; three-dimensional electron diffraction; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Electron crystallography is powerful for determination of complex structures. The newly-developed 3D electron diffraction (ED) methods make structure determination from nano- and micron-sized crystals much easier than using other methods, for example X-ray diffraction. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Focused Ion Beam Preparation and Transmission Electron Microscopy of Materials for Energy Applications

    Författare :Filip Lenrick; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transmission electron microscopy; focused ion beam; solid oxide materials; fuel cell; semiconductor materials; nanowire; LED; solar cell;

    Sammanfattning : Throughout this thesis, samples of various materials with applications in energy converting devices have been prepared by focused ion beam machining and investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Energy converting devices can be solar cells or light emitting diodes, which turn light into electricity or vice versa. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Analysis of Structure, Composition and Growth of Semiconductor Nanowires by Transmission Electron Microscopy

    Författare :Martin Ek; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transmission electron microscopy; nanowires; III-V semiconductors; polarity; in-situ TEM;

    Sammanfattning : Nanowires have the potential to be a very flexible platform for the design of semiconductor devices. In nanowires it is possible to form crystal structures not found in the bulk materials under normal conditions, and to combine different III-V and group IV materials into axial or radial heterostructures.
