6. Simplified models for emission formation in diesel engines during transient operation
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is the result of the KTH CICERO project “Dynamic Engine Performance” in which the main objective was to develop simple models foremission formation. The demand for such models is increasing, mainly due to the tightening emission legislation for diesel engines which has lead to more complex engines and thereby more laborious development and calibration processes. 7. Evaluation of forecasting techniques and forecast errors : with focus on intermittent demand
Sammanfattning : To decide in advance the amount of resources that is required next week or next month can be both a complicated and hazardous task depending on the situation, despite the known time frame when the resources are needed. Intermittent demand, or slow-moving demand, that is when there are time periods without demand and then suddenly a time period with demand, becomes even more difficult to forecast. LÄS MER
8. Transient acoustic fields studied by pulsed TV holography
Sammanfattning : Many of the acoustic events that reach our ears are produced by impacted and vibrating bodies. Pulsed holographic interferometry is a suitable technique to record transient events, like sound waves in air from an impacted body or the wave propagation in solid objects. LÄS MER
9. Transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the problem of transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive media. The analysis is performed using time-domain techniques. In particular, the dispersive wave splitting which decouples the Maxwell equations both in vacuum and inside the medium is utilized. LÄS MER
10. Ballistic Imaging of Transient Phenomena in Turbid Media
Sammanfattning : Ballistic imaging (BI) was developed as an optical diagnostic capable of ascertaining velocity and spatial information within dense sprays with relevance to liquid-fuel injection and combustion. This development includes a full model of light scattering within the complete imaging system, enabling the performance of the instrument to be examined, optimized and quantified. LÄS MER
