11. Kilonova signatures and observations with Zwicky Transient Facility
Sammanfattning : On 17 August 2017, the advanced LIGO and Virgo collaboration detected the first gravitational wave event produced by the merger of a pair of inspiraling binary neutron stars (BNS). This event, named GW170817, was associated with a short gamma-ray burst and the kilonova (KN) AT2017gfo that was followed-up over the following days and weeks over the electromagnetic spectrum from ultraviolet to near infrared frequencies. 13. PTF12os and iPTF13bvn : Two stripped-envelope supernovae discovered by the Palomar Transient Factory
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on research made by the intermediate Palomar Transient Factory [(i)PTF], and it is particularly closely tied to the still ongoing research on the stripped-envelope (SE) supernova (SN), iPTF13bvn (Type Ib), that occurred in the nearby galaxy NGC 5806. This SN was initially thought to have been the explosion of a very massive Wolf-Rayet (WR) star, but I have shown that this is very likely not the case. LÄS MER
14. Studies on Potency and breadth of HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIV neutralizing antibody responses
Sammanfattning : Even though the relative contribution of neutralizing antibodies (Nab) to prevent progression to AIDS during HIV-1 infection is still unclear, the induction of broadly NAb directed against HIV-1 through vaccination is considered to represent an important goal for the development of HIV-1 vaccines. Factors contributing to the induction of NAb may include the strength and duration of antigenic stimulation, the preservation of CD4+ T and B cells, the conformation of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein complex (Env), and the evolution of Env during infection. 15. Creep modelling of particle strengthened steels
Sammanfattning : Materials used in thermal power plants have to resist creep deformation for time periods up to 30 years. Material evaluation is typically based on creep testing with a maximum duration of a few years. This information is used as input when empirically deriving models for creep. LÄS MER
