1. Ultrafast spin, lattice, and electron dynamics in thin metallic films : in the terahertz, near-infrared, and extreme ultraviolet regimes
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we studied the ultrafast spin and electron dynamics triggered by electromagnetic radiation belonging to three different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, namely terahertz, near-infrared and extreme ultraviolet. By performing pump–probe measurements, we explored the role of the lattice in ultrafast spin and electron dynamics in metallic thin films. LÄS MER
2. The Polar Cusp and its Ionospheric footprint : Dynamics and Transients
Sammanfattning : The magnetopause, the boundary layer between the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetosphere, is not closed as we have long thought. Transfers of energy, particles and momentum from the solar wind to the magnetosphere actually take place. LÄS MER
3. Protein-water interactions studied by molecular dynamics simulations
Sammanfattning : Most proteins have evolved to function optimally in aqueous environments, and the interactions between protein and water therefore play a fundamental role in the stability, dynamics, and function of proteins. Although we understand many details of water, we understand much less about the protein-water interface. LÄS MER
4. Transient Air to Fuel Ratio Response in a Fuel Injected S.I Engine
Sammanfattning : Future emission standards make it necessary to focus on the conditions under which engine emissions are produced, especially before the catalyst light off. During practical driving conditions, such as those represented by the FTP 75 test cycle, the engine is operated very much under transient conditions regarding load and speed. LÄS MER
5. Fingerprints of light-induced molecular transients : from quantum chemical models of ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Absorption of sunlight generates renewable electricity and powers the growth of plants, but also causes severe damage both to synthetic materials and biological tissue. The wildly varying outcomes of these light-induced processes are ultimately determined by much slighter differences in their underlying reaction pathways, induced by the transient properties of short-lived and miniscule molecules; a powerful approach to their detection and characterization is offered by ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy, with identification of spectral fingerprints and further guidance from quantum chemical models.
