  1. 6. Non-target Effects of Genetically Modified Trees

    Författare :Patrik Blomberg; Anders Wennström; Jan Stenlid; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetically modified; GM trees; secondary metabolism; phytochemistry; Populus; transgenic; non-target effects; natural enemies; plant-pathogen herbivore interaction; environmental effects; parasitic fungi; herbivorous insect; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : To date, few studies have focused on the effects of genetically modified trees (GM trees) on the environment. One concern with GM trees is that they may have unanticipated effects on non-target organisms, i.e. effects on organisms that are not direct targets of the genetically modified trait. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Superoxide dismutase 1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

    Författare :P. Andreas Jonsson; Stefan L. Marklund; David R. Borchelt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; aggregates; ALS; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; cerebrospinal fluid; disulfide-reduced; inclusions; misfolded; protective factor; SOD1; transgenic; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons in the spinal cord, brain stem and motor cortex, leading to paralysis, respiratory failure and death. In about 5% of ALS cases, the disease is associated with mutations in the CuZn-superoxide dismutase (hSOD1) gene. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Role of IL-1RAcP and IL-1ra in IL-1 signalling : molecular biological and transgenic studies

    Författare :Johan Lundkvist; Alberto Mantovani; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Other chemistry; Övrig kemi;

    Sammanfattning : IL-1 is a proinflammatory cytokine which causes systemic responses such as fever, increased neuroendocrine activity, sympathetic outflow and increased immune responses. Activation of the transcription factor NFkB is one of the molecular mechanisms involved in IL-1 signalling. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The relative importance of sex steroid receptors for bone metabolism

    Författare :Sofia Movérare-Skrtic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :bone; estrogen; androgen; transgenic; microarray;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogen deficiency increases the risk of a wide variety of pathological conditions including osteoporosis. Morbidity from osteoporosis is substantial in both men and women. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Prolactin and growth hormone in breast cancer. Studies of human breast cancer and transgenic tumor models

    Författare :Maria Gebre-Medhin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prolactin; growth hormone; breast cancer; transgenic mice; estrogen receptor; insulin-like growth factor; insulin-like growth factor-I receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Prolactin (PRL) and growth hormone (GH) are two related pituitary peptide hormones of importance during normal mammary gland development. Furthermore, their involvement in development and growth of malignant mammary tumors has been suggested by several investigators. LÄS MER
