21. Functional Studies on the PDGFR α gene promoter and effects of autocrine PDGF-A stimulation in vivo
Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (PDGFRα) plays an important role during embryogenesis. After implantation, the patterns of expression of Pdgfrα and its ligand Pdgf-A undergo an "autocrine-paracrine transition", in that Pdgf-A becomes expressed in the ectoderm and epithelia, while Pdgfrα is expressed in the adjacent mesenchymal tissue. 22. Targeting Early Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease in a Transgenic Model
Sammanfattning : The Arctic mutation causes early-onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and makes amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides more prone to form Aβ protofibrils. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the mechanisms of the Arctic mutation in vivo, and to use transgenic models to determine the role of early intermediates of Aβ aggregation, like protofibrils, in the pathogenesis. 23. Metabolic engineering of starch synthesis in barley
Sammanfattning : Starch is an important industrial raw material both for food and non-food purposes. In plants, starch is deposited in the leaf and in the storage tissues such as seed endosperm, roots or tubers. LÄS MER
24. Mutant superoxide dismutase-1-caused pathogenesis in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating disease that affects people in their late mid-life, with fatal outcome usually within a few years. The progressive degeneration of neurons responsible for muscle movement (motor neurons) throughout the central nervous system (CNS) leads to muscle wasting and paralysis, and eventually affects respiratory function. 25. Metal Affinity Peptides in Biotechnological Applications As tools in protein purification, protein stabilisation, metal quantification and metal tolerance of bacteria and plants
Sammanfattning : Metal affinity tags have been fused to proteins and demonstrated to function as tools in protein purification, protein stabilisation, quantitative metal analysis and metal tolerance of bacteria and plants. In biotechnological applications proteins frequently have to function in nonnatural environments with harsh conditions which impose requirements for high stability on the proteins. LÄS MER
