    Författare :Pramod Mallikarjuna; Maréne Landström; Börje Ljungberg; Raviprakash Tumkur Sitaram; Anders Bjartell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-β; Hypoxia; Renal cell carcinoma; ccRCC; non-ccRCC; transforming growth factor-β; ALK5; pVHL; HIF-α; SNAIL1; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the cancer of the kidneys; about 1100 patients with RCC are diagnosed in Sweden each year. RCC can be classified into several subtypes, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is most common accounting to about 70% of all RCCs, and also the most lethal; papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) accounts to about 10%‐15%, while chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) accounts to about 5% of all RCCs. Författare :Agata Zieba; Ola Söderberg; Kathleen C. Flanders; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; proximity ligation; TGF-β signaling; Smad; single cell analysis; cell cycle; context-dependent signaling; CRC; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi; Molecular Biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : A comprehensive understanding of how the body and all its components function is essential when this knowledge is exploited for medical purposes. The achievements in biological and medical research during last decades has provided us with the complete human genome and identified signaling pathways that governs the cellular processes that facilitates the development and maintenance of higher order organisms. 3. 3. Posterior capsule opacification : An experimental study in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Niklas Wallentin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Posterior capsule opacification PCO ; after-cataract; lens epithelial cell; proliferation; aqueous humor AqH ; inflammation; growth factors; basic fibroblast growth factor bFGF ; transforming growth factor-β TGF-β ; extracapsular cataract extraction; corneal incision; rabbit; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : The clinical and economic significance of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) makes it an important public health problem. A better understanding of the pathogenesis in order to reduce/prevent PCO is needed. For this purpose an experimental model in the rabbit was used and further developed in thisthesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Taking Pressure of Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma : Molecular Studies of Apoptosis and Interstitial Hypertension

    Författare :Pernilla Roswall; Nils-Erik Heldin; Kristofer Rubin; Sven Påhlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma; Apoptosis; Cre recombinase; 2-Methoxyestradiol; Transforming growth factor-β; Transgenic mouse; Tumor-associated macrophages; Tumor interstitial fluid pressure; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Molecular mechanisms in the development and progression of thyroid carcinomas are still not fully understood. In the present thesis the highly malignant anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) was used to study regulation of apoptosis and tumor interstitial fluid pressure (IFP). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins for Catecholaminergic Neurons in Vivo : Use of the Tyrosine Hydroxylase Locus for Cell-Specific inactivation of Signal Transduction

    Författare :Dmitry Usoskin; Ted Ebendal; Ernest Arenas; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Members of the Transforming Growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily and its subclass Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMP) play important roles for nervous system development. In order to study the BMP role for catecholaminergic neurons in vivo, we generated three knock-in mice, expressing the transgenes specifically in the targeting cells. LÄS MER
