  1. 6. Decoding the Structural Layer of Transcriptional Regulation : Computational Analyses of Chromatin and Chromosomal Aberrations

    Författare :Robin Andersson; Jan Komorowski; Jan Dumanski; Claes Wadelius; Anders Krogh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chromatin; Nucleosome positioning; Histone modifications; Chromosomal aberrations; Transcriptional regulation; Array-CGH; Next generation sequencing; ChIP-chip; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Gene activity is regulated at two separate layers. Through structural and chemical properties of DNA – the primary layer of encoding – local signatures may enable, or disable, the binding of proteins or complexes of them with regulatory potential to the DNA. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Unravelling Mechanistic Insights of Eukaryotic Transcriptional Control

    Författare :Johanna Hörberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcriptional control; Gene expression regulation; DNA supercoiling; DNA methylation; DNA-protein recognition; Basic-Leucine-Zipper transcription factors; Basic-Helix-Loop-Helix transcription factors; Sequence specific DNA plasticity; Transcription factor cooperativity; Cancer; Molecular modelling; Molecular dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : DNA transcription involves the association of multiple proteins with DNA to convert the genetic information into messenger-RNA transcripts, which later will be translated into proteins. Con-trolled regulation of transcription is imperative for preserving the healthy and homeostatic state of cells. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Adapting to succeed : Post-transcriptional gene regulation in Salmonella

    Författare :Alisa Rizvanovic; Erik Holmqvist; Fabien Darfeuille; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Salmonella; gene regulation; post-transcriptional regulation; RNA-binding protein; ProQ; sRNA; flagella; motility; antibiotic persistence;

    Sammanfattning : Salmonella are zoonotic pathogens of worldwide economic and health importance. Both during life outside and inside the host, these pathogens are subject to continuously changing environmental conditions, such as temperature changes, acid stress, nutrient limitations, and others. 4. 9. The Nucleosome as a Signal Carrying Unit : From Experimental Data to Combinatorial Models of Transcriptional Control

    Författare :Stefan Enroth; Jan Komorowski; Claes Wadelius; Rickard Sandberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Next generation sequencing; Nucleosome; Histone modification; Transcriptional regulation; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : The human genome consists of over 3 billion nucleotides and would be around 2 meters long if uncoiled and laid out. Each human somatic cell contains all this in their nucleus which is only around 5 µm across. This extreme compaction is largely achieved by wrapping the DNA around a histone octamer, the nucleosome. 5. 10. Mating type switching and transcriptional silencing in Kluyveromyces lactis

    Författare :Emad Barsoum; Åström Stefan; Laura Rusche; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mating type switch; transcriptional silencing; alpha3; transposase; Ume6; Mts1; Ras; cAMP; K. lactis; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Sammanfattning : To explore the similarities and differences of regulatory circuits among budding yeasts, we characterized the role of unscheduled meiotic gene expression 6 (UME6) and a novel mating type switching pathway in Kluyveromyces lactis. We found that Ume6 was required for transcriptional silencing of the cryptic mating-type loci HMLα and HMRa. LÄS MER
