2. Mating type switching and transcriptional silencing in Kluyveromyces lactis
Sammanfattning : To explore the similarities and differences of regulatory circuits among budding yeasts, we characterized the role of unscheduled meiotic gene expression 6 (UME6) and a novel mating type switching pathway in Kluyveromyces lactis. We found that Ume6 was required for transcriptional silencing of the cryptic mating-type loci HMLα and HMRa. LÄS MER
3. Structure-Function Studies of Bacteriophage P2 Integrase and Cox protein
Sammanfattning : Probably no group of organisms has been as important as bacteriophages when it comes to the understanding of fundamental biological processes like transcriptional control, DNA replication, site-specific recombination, e.t.c.The work presented in this thesis is a contribution towards the complete understanding of these organisms. 4. Transcriptional regulation of the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 1 gene in latent and lytic stages of infection
Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a lymphotropic herpesvirus that infects more than 90% of humans worldwide. The virus is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis, a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disorder, and is also associated with a variety of malignancies including Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), Hodgkin's disease (HD), nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), and lymphoproliferative disorders in immunocompromised individuals. 5. A Genetic Switch in Bacteriophages within the Peduovirinae Subfamily : Structure, Function and Evolution
Sammanfattning : The temperate bacteriophages in the Peduovirinae subfamily can either grow lytically or integrate into their bacterial host and form lysogeny. Which one of the two life cycles the phage will enter after infection is controlled by a transcriptional switch. LÄS MER
