  1. 6. Neural control of standing posture

    Författare :Craig Tokuno; Andrew Cresswell; Alf Thorstensson; Marc Carpenter; Thomas Sinkjær; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology; Posture; motor cortex; electromyography; kinematics; H-reflex; pre-synaptic inhibition; transcranial magnetic stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : When humans are asked to stand normally, they are not completely motionless. Rather, small amounts of body movement, termed postural sway, can be observed. Although the postural sway of standing has been well described, the manner in which this sway is neurally controlled and its influence in tasks involving postural re-stabilization are not known. 2. 7. Language as structured sequences : a causal role of Broca's region in sequence processing

    Författare :Julia Uddén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I approach language as a neurobiological system. I defend a sequence processing perspective on language and on the function of Broca's region in the left inferior frontal gyrus (LIFG). This perspective provides a way to express common structural aspects of language, music and action, which all engage the LIFG. LÄS MER

  3. 8. On the Site of the Lesion in Konzo : Clinical and Neurophysiological Studies on a Non-Progressive Upper Motor Neuron Disorder

    Författare :Desire Tshala-Katumbay; Andrew Eisen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Konzo; upper motor neuron diseases; WHO criteria; electroencephalography; evoked potentials; brain involvement; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Konzo is a permanent spastic para/tetraparesis occurring in undernourished populations in Africa relying on insufficiently processed bitter cassava, which contains cyanogenic compounds, as staple food. Its pathogenetic mechanism is unknown. Our studies aimed at clarifying the lesion in konzo. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Neural correlates of hand function in typically developing individuals and children with unilateral cerebral palsy

    Författare :Linda Holmström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to use our hands is crucial in order to achieve the goals of almost all activities in everyday life. Most of us learn how to handle objects and adjust our hand and finger movements to perform increasingly difficult tasks during childhood and adolescence. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Movement Behaviors and Cognitive Health for Office Workers

    Författare :Emil Bojsen-Møller; Maria Ekblom; Jonna Nilsson; Carl-Johan Boraxbekk; Teresa Liu-Ambrose; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Movement behavior; Physical activity; Sedentary behavior; cognitive functions; neuroplasticity; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The lifetime trajectories of movement behavior and cognitive functioning depend on complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors. There is substantial evidence suggesting that physical activity benefits cognitive functions. However, how sedentary behavior and the composition of movement behaviors (i.e. LÄS MER
