1. Geometric Control of Thrust Propelled Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis was motivated and inspired by the AEROWORKS project, a European research project, whose main goal was to deploy multiple heterogeneous unmanned aerial vehicles in environments where human intervention is restricted. In particular, this thesis focuses on control of aerial vehicles for the purposes of cargo transportation, an application of interest, for example, in inspection and maintenance of aging infrastructures. 2. Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Combustion in PPC and Diesel Engines
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with large eddy simulations (LES) of turbulent combustion processes in direct injection internal combustion (IC) engines. Modeling of direct injection IC engine combustion involves modeling of turbulent spray/gas two-phase flow, modeling of chemical reactions of large hydrocarbon fuels and coupling of chemistry with turbulent flows. 3. Properties of Volume Bragg Gratings and Nonlinear Crystals for Laser Engineering
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on two topics: thermal limitations of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) employed as laser-cavity mirrors and formation of color centers in KTiOPO4 and its isomorphs. To explore the mechanisms of the thermal limitations of VBGs in high power lasers, I designed and constructed a diode-pumped, solid‑state laser with a VBG as cavity mirror that had a significantly higher absorption than what is typical. 4. Rigid-Body Attitude Control and Related Topics
Sammanfattning : This dissertation explores aspects of control in rigid-body and robotic systems. The first and second paper analyze the attitude stabilization problem and its generalization to n-dimensional rigid bodies. LÄS MER
5. Nanobubbles in water - how to identify them and why they are stable
Sammanfattning : Gas bubbles smaller than 1 micrometer in water, commonly referred to as nanobubbles, is a growing field of research and innovation. Applications range from medical imaging and drug delivery to mining industry and environmental remediation. LÄS MER
