16. New roles for apical secretion and extracellular matrix assembly in Drosophila epithelial morphogenesis
Sammanfattning : Branched tubular organs, such as the lung and vascular system fulfill the respiratory needs of most animals. Optimal tissue function relies on the uniform sizes and shapes of the constituting branches in each organ. LÄS MER
17. The hyperosmolar airway : Mechanisms of reduced response to nitric oxide
Sammanfattning : Inhaled nitric oxide (NO) relaxes smooth muscle of the airways and of pulmonary blood vessels and is used to treat lung diseases where the pulmonary vessels are constricted. NO has also been tested as a bronchodilator in asthmatic patients. LÄS MER
18. Open and closed endotracheal suctioning. Experimental and human studies
Sammanfattning : Background: The practice of endotracheal suctioning of ventilator treated patients is necessary to remove secretions to prevent obstruction of the endotracheal-tracheal tube and lower airways. This very common procedure creates a large variety of heart-lung interferences. LÄS MER
19. Long-Term Tracheostomy : Outcome, Cannula care, and Material Wear
Sammanfattning : Do people with long-term tracheostomy need hospital care? Which cleaning method is most appropriate for decontamination of inner cannulae? Are tracheostomy tubes changed for rational reasons? There is clearly a lack of evidence based research in this field and the clinical guidelines available are often based on local practice. A tracheostomy is a created opening in trachea to facilitate breathing. LÄS MER
20. Regulation of epithelial morphogenesis in Drosophila by the Emp scavenger receptor
Sammanfattning : The respiratory system of Drosophila melanogaster, the trachea, is widely used as a model system to study the development of branched tubular organs. Airway maturation in Drosophila entails a series of sequential events: first, a massive apical secretion of luminal proteins initiates diametric tube expansion, second an endocytic wave removes luminal proteins and finally liquid clearance and gas filling converts the nascent epithelial tubes to a functional respiratory organ.
